Dead Aid by Dambisa Moyo

A new book published about the inefficient form of humanitarian aid in Africa is entitled "Dead Aid". Dambisa Moyo, the author, writes in the book about how the aid which is supposed to be helping people is actually crippling the economy of Africa. She argues the that there need to be new ways of providing aid to countries in need.

She uses examples of the humanitarian efforts in Africa to help show that while the intentions of those working in humanitarian aid are good, the manner in which they provide aid to Africa has not accomplished the goals set by the institutions providing the aid.

The world has been giving more than ever to humanitarian efforts in an attempt to help those that are suffering. Yet the underlying result of this aid has created a dependence on the very aid given to help.

The book does an excellent job of laying down in very plain terms the problems that traditional aid has created and sheds light on the forms of aid that have been the most success throughout Africa.

I find this book to be truly inspiring. I believe that more people would donate to more humanitarian aid if they knew it was solving long term problems. Helping humanitarian aid organization to give the correct form of aid is the first step in that direction.
